It was her overall attitude that was bothering me, and she was ... irritatingly unconcerned with the matter. She did comment on the idea of a drunk middle-schooler being funny, after all. At your age, I wouldn't be terribly concerned at the thought of you having a little bit of wine every now and then-- [Ah, the drinking age in 2001 Italy being 16] --but certainly not enough for you to get drunk or you having anything anywhere near as strong as the tequila.
[Tequila was absolutely too much.
He cannot and will not speak for Narancia, though he does have a feeling what the issue there was.]
Perhaps not, but... it was bothering me, the more I thought about yesterday. Jolyne was unconcerned until Signora Naeva pushing her buttons, after all, and Carly was unconcerned as well...
[And then, well, Emporio's own comment about feeling like everyone was overreacting a bit...]
...Which...probably sounds bad, but mostly it was proximity instead of direct?
[That's still bad.] Personally...I'm not really interested, but it's good to know about the wine at least. I've seen enough to decide in advance though, [the boy adds with an easy smile.]
But, for something that won't affect things in the end, it's hard not to see a joke as a joke I guess.
Err....something hypothetical that definitely won't happen? That's normally a joke?
[People find things funny, when they imagine things, far more often than they do when it actually happens - Emporio Brain Logic.]
It's...mmm. It's like, if someone talked about imagining someone tripping down stairs for a laugh, they would laugh at the image, but not if it actually happened.
[That's a pretty easy one right?] Or if it was in a comedy movie, as opposed to real life. [Yeah.]
It just seems like a lot would. There's a bit of a hopeless shrug regarding it all, because honestly, what's he supposed to do about it. Also-] ....But it's still not happening. So it doesn't feel like much to dwell on either way.
Haha, I wasn't going to..! It's pretty likely that we'd only ever encounter the other at one of those parties that happen through the year at least, so that shouldn't be an issue?
...It probably won't even be much of a problem if it does happen anyway. People can't really start 'real fights' here in the end.
[He's sort of surprised Narancia even had a knife.
........................................
Hmm.] ...Are...you okay though? ...you did come here to talk, so...
[So as much as the other end might not be certain why...there must be something right?]
[Ah. Well. Bruno hesitates for a moment, then sighs. Busted, he supposes.]
To tell you the truth, it's a topic I'm not quite sure how to approach, and... well, I know better than forcing the issue. I guess you could say I've been... concerned at, well, the lack of concern? And wondering just how you were so used to discussing...
[... Vague gesture. Fragola is giving him a bit of a dubious side-eye.]
[There is a blink. A blink, and a pause, as Emporio registers the question. The non-question, rather.
He's been standing this whole time. Only now does he sit, hands supporting him as he sits back somewhat, clearly in thought.]
....Oh, [Is what he finally says.
'Oh'.]
...I guess...I'm not used to explaining that, still. ...I thought I would be- but somehow if anything I think the more it comes up, the less it feels like I can bring it up.
[In Green Dolphin it was easy. He was there, they asked, he answered. They moved on.
Elsewhere, it leaves a lingering awkwardness, something that his own new boyfriend proved just the day before when they were talking.] ...I guess...Narancia didn't say anything about that either then, [he murmurs, moving to lean over with a thoughtful stare at the floor.]
...I guess...I just grew up in a strange environment? ...Before I came here, I could probably count who I could talk to on one hand. ...Literally- not 'closely'.
Burning Down the House doesn't manifest like the others do- it was just something I could do...er, 'use', I guess. It lets me interact with 'ghost objects'. You know the Burned Tower? In Ecruteak? During those weekends where our powers return, I can access the tower that used to be there.
...The Ghost Room at Green Dolphin... ...the prison that Jolyne was incarcerated at... ...That's where I lived. ...That's where I grew up.
[The smile is. Pained. At least he isn't...outwardly being weird about it? He's definitely bracing for a shift in behavior over the next few days though.] It was a lot more space at least. And more people. Like I said, I was more used to...well. Being alone.
